?? THE REVOKE OF NUASA OAU PRESIDENT’S IMPEACHMENT
Nigerian University Accounting Students Association (NUASA), Obafemi Awolowo University chapter called for a press conference on the 20th January, 2017 to repeal the impeachment of the Association’s President, in person of *Mr. Akpan Sunday John*.
The press conference which held at the *ICAN Lecture Theatre* started at about 6:45pm with journalists from various News Agencies.
The *Department of Management and Accounting* called for the press conference so as to clear the *political brouhaha* ongoing in their department.
In attendance was *Mr. Lawal Adebayo*, staff adviser; *Hon. Ajayi Emmanuel*, speaker; *Hon. Falaye Temitope*, deputy speaker; *Hon. Adeyemi Moses*, chief whip; and other Executive Members of the *Accounting Students Representative Council* (ASRC).
The allegation levelled against the President was that *he defrauded the Association of #5000*. The report gotten from the Association as of the time of this report was that he didn’t defraud the Association. Simply put, the allegation put against him was false. The staff adviser present in the press conference made it known that *proper management of fund in NUASA is highly important*.
A letter prepared by the sitting of the Association was read out to the ears of everyone sitting there, and it could be drawn from the letter that the allegation against him had been dropped. This letter was prepared after series of meetings were held, and intervention of alumni and staff advisors of the department. A notable alumni is the *first NUASA President*, in person of *Mr. Adebola*.
After the reading of the letter, honourables representing each constituency were called forward to append their signatures. Some of them are *Hon. Adebisi Ibidokun, Hon. Adetomiwa Adetona, Hon. Popoola Kehinde, Hon. Ajibade Zainab, Hon. Olamide, Hon. Anuoluwapo,* and a host of others.
Also, executive members were called forward to append their signature. Some of them are *Adeagbo Faith, Ojedele Akintomiwa, Adetola Oluwabukola, Alade Modupeola, Abu Opeyemi,* among others.
When asked if the President had been reinstated or still remained impeached, the deputy speaker tried to avoid answering the question, but instead quoted *Article 11, section 23* of their constitution which has to do with repeal of a previously passed judgment. Another honorable made it clear that the President committed no offence.
The speaker, when asked said, *”the basic reason for repealing the impeachment was to ensure maintenance of unity, peace and progress in the department and association”*.
Mr. Lawal Adebayo said that during the meetings held, the resolution made was that for the department’s progress, various options were considered, and the best option was to *repeal the impeachment of the President*. He also made it clear that he (Mr. Lawal Adebayo) is in custody of cheques, and that the President didn’t steal the money.
The President when given a chance to talk said that he didn’t steal the money, but that it was an excess from the money approved for the zoo visitation (#15000 was approved, but the price was later negotiated to #10000). So, the #5000 remaining was added to the money contributed by the EXCOs for the construction of the white marker board at ICAN Lecture Theatre.
In summary, the *NUASA OAU President has been reinstated*.
